George Lucas: House 7 in Vedic Astrology
Figuring out relationships has been a lifelong lesson for George Lucas. Here's why.
Mars is already a tricky planetary energy for Taurus Ascendants, especially as Taurus’ planet in charge of relationships; this energy must be handled with care and awareness. Let’s take a closer look into how Lucas’ relationships were impacted by his Debilitated Mars conjunct Rahu.
Note: To reference Lucas’ astrological details that are mentioned in this post, please refer back to House 1 in this series.

House 7: Scorpio
The main theme of House 7 is relationships. Being the exact opposite of House 1 of self, this is where projection happens, and trade and exchange. House 7 also represents journeys and foreign countries. It’s an Angle, a Maraka house and a house of Kama.
Scorpio is the natural eighth sign. It’s fixed, of the Brahmin caste and its element is water. Scorpio is a hidden sign of the psyche, how one trusts others, knowledge through contemplation, research, spiritual sensitivity, occult matters, and psycho-emotional integration.
When Scorpio overlaps with House 7, relationships can have pitfalls. Scorpio is a fixed sign and resistance to sudden changes within relationships can occur. Taurus Ascendants may waste a lot of energy in relationship if they don’t deeply trust the other person.
Rasi Aspects and Prosperity & Annihilation
Mars, Rahu and Ketu send their Rasi aspects to Scorpio. It’s positive that Mars aspects its own sign, but the Nodes create confusion regarding psycho-emotional integration, especially in relationships. His House 7 has slightly more annihilation than prosperity.
Mars’ Function for a Taurus Ascendant
Scorpio’s lord is Mars and becomes Lucas’ 7th lord. It’s considered inauspicious for Taurus because it rules over a maraka house and neutral 12th. Mars-related things can disrupt Taurus’ path through passion and the capacity to create waste.
For Taurus, House 7 of relationships and the House 12 of loss are combined. If Mars isn’t doing well, relationships for a Taurus can be costly. They can also diminish vital life force by putting too much passion into frustrating partnerships.
Mars’ energy is instinctual, quick and decisive. It represents willfulness, temper, accidents, peers and strength of character. It’s considered a malefic planet, masculine, tamasic, in the Kshatriya caste and looks upwards to find solutions.
In general, because of Mars’ idealistic nature, Taurus is best suited to partnerships that serve higher purposes and less around romantic fantasies.
Dignity, Avashtas and Shad Bala of Mars
Lucas’ Mars is debilitated, Bala and Sushupti. In Shad Bala, his Mars is strong except in Dig and Cheshta Bala. When younger, he tried too hard to prove that he could take on everything by himself, but it only showed his weaknesses.
He needed others to support him even if he didn’t want to admit it. For instance, his earlier films improved when his first wife, as editor, suggested more heartfelt scenes that would win over audiences. Although he didn’t like another’s input, in order for success to come he needed to trust her.
Graha Influences on Mars
Mars is conjunct Rahu, aspected by the Sun (17 points), Venus (29 points) and Mercury (34 points), and is in the Moon’s sign.
Rahu joining Mars was mostly discussed in the House 3 section. When it comes to partnerships, things may start out well for Lucas but then his issues come with following through. Without his attention, his relationships fall apart. Debilitated Mars ruling House 7 combined with Rahu shows that he’s had to learn how to be in relationship and maintain it through time.
Mars in Cancer debilitated his business relationships; he’d keep his feelings bottled up until he exploded. In 2015 he issued a public apology to the Disney Company for likening them to “white slavers” in an emotional statement. Basically, Disney’s production of the Star Wars saga became different from his own ideas and he was illogically upset even though he willingly sold the franchise rights to them in 2012.
Lajjitaadi Avashtas on Mars
Mars receives 151 points of delight from the Sun and an addition of 445.7 points of Lunar help by being in Cancer. Mercury thirsts Lucas’ Mars with 254 points, so he’ll notice this but won’t be too affected by it.
With Sun aspecting, Lucas’ restlessness channels into purpose. Moon delighting helps him manifest on the material plane. Mercury’s thirst negatively impacts his ability to make immediate decisions, but his Mars’ low Dig Bala already creates this kind of situation.
Yogas
Mars has +0.6 and -20.1 in Yoga Judgment. Kashta is also high at 46.4 points. In general, despite Mars being his Atmakaraka, it’s his weakest link and a crucial energy that he’s had to work on his whole life.
Mars rules the 7th and occupies Lucas’ 3rd house. Business relationships undergo frustrations, and partners are critical of his character.
When Lucas’ first wife divorced him, she was upset that he prioritized work over their marriage and complained of his “emotional blockages.” Because Mars is asleep for Lucas, he was surprised by the divorce and even more blind-sighted when she took half his fortune in the settlement.
Mars is in an Upachaya house. Now that he’s much older, his second marriage looks very different. What stands out is their commitment to contributing to charities as a couple. This combines his 7th and 12th houses, both ruled by an improved Mars.
Noteworthy Yoga
Although we’re focusing on Mars, Venus is the general karaka for the House 7.
Lucas has the Muni “hermit” Yoga. From Kala Software: “Venus with only malefics in the lagna or a trine, unaspected by benefics, and the said malefics are also in debilitation or inimical amsas.”
Lucas may have had problems with being romantic. Venus for Lucas is in a good house so he follows his inspirations more than he devotes himself to relationships. Although he’s been married twice, marriage has taken the backseat compared to his personal goals.
