Welcome to House 3 of George Lucas' birth chart. House 3 contains Rahu and a debilitated Mars... oh the excitement! Dive into what this meant for Lucas and his House of ambitions, interests and skillsets.
(Note: To reference Lucas’ astrological details that are mentioned in this post, please refer back to House 1 in this series.)

House 3: Cancer
House 3 represents effort and impulsiveness. It depicts peers, competition and courage. This house can refer to the fine arts such as drama and actors. It’s a house of management, communication, interests, hobbies and skills. It’s a mild Dusthana house of suffering as well as an Upachaya house of increase. This house belongs to the quadrant of Kama (pleasure).
House 3 for Lucas is in Cancer. The nature of Cancer is cardinal, sattvic, Brahmin caste, feminine and its element is water. It indicates emotions, home, contentment, security, the capacity to adapt and foreign lands.
Cancer as House 3 can create an impulse towards excess emotion. Competition can become emotional, and because Taurus Ascendants are generally at odds with themselves anyway, a lot of unnecessary self-created stress can occur within.
Rasi Aspects and Prosperity & Annihilation
The Rasi aspects to Cancer are mostly benevolent for Lucas. Moon aspects its own home, Venus and Mercury also shine gently onto Cancer. The Sun is only slightly cruel. The Moon is a karaka for imagination, and with it Rasi aspecting its own sign, there seems to be no limit to how much Lucas can create what he imagines.
Prosperity overrides annihilation of the 3rd house in a landslide of 7 points to 2, which greatly increases his capacity to succeed through his own efforts.
Planets Occupying House 3
Mars is debilitated with Rahu in Lucas’ House 3. Rahu conjunct Mars shows that qualities of Mars are underdeveloped. His whole life he’s been put in situations where he’s had to learn appropriate use of his willfulness and ambition.
Because Lucas has strong opinions about how films should be made, he never liked how studio producers would manipulate his ideas. Mars rules his 7th house of business partnerships, and before he made his first hit film, he rebelled against Hollywood and started his own film studio in San Fransisco with his peer, Francis Ford Coppola. Mars in the 3rd can indicate peers and training; although Lucas went to university for filmmaking, his initial “real world” training was from Coppola.
Mars with Rahu can make someone who’s good at mechanics. Lucas got into filmmaking because he was fascinated by the mechanics of filmmaking, just as he was interested in the workings of vehicles.
Rahu in House 3 indicates a need to test one’s belief systems through experimentation. In just a few years, Lucas launched from being a hobbyist with the camera to becoming a world-renown filmmaker. He learned to test what he believed a film “should be” versus what actually translates to audiences.
Rahu in Cancer creates an urge in Lucas to develop inner security. Even though Rahu’s lord is in Enemy dignity and it’s with debilitated Mars, Saturn is in Great Friend dignity which helps him to endure mistakes. Cancer also has a lot of support through Rasi aspects and high prosperity. Lucas wasn’t just in the film industry for the mechanics of it, but he had a message to convey about finding true inner contentment.
Moon’s Function for a Taurus Ascendant
Cancer is ruled by the Moon and is the 3rd lord. The 3rd lord is considered inauspicious because of its desire-based ambitions to distract from dharma, and the Moon rules no other house.
The Moon portrays emotions, adaptability, intuition and imagination. It represents popularity and the capacity to accept good things. It’s considered a benefic planet when waxing, a malefic when waning, feminine, sattvic, in the Vaishya caste and looks in all directions at once.
Dignity, Avashtas and Shad Bala of the Moon
Lucas’ Moon is in Enemy dignity, Kumara Avashta and Svapna. While its dignity and Jagraadi Avashta aren’t inspiring, being in an Adolescent Balaadi Avashta gives the Moon’s karmas more presence.
The Shad Bala scores of the Moon are all sufficient except for Dig Bala. When the Moon has Dig Bala, one can imagine what’s fulfilling and follows it. Lucas improved his Moon’s Dig Bala throughout his whole life, working with the subtle nature of “the Force.”
Lajjitaadi Avashtas on House Lord
Every planet aspects the Moon, with Mars, Jupiter and Saturn aspecting it the most. Mars aspects it by a full 60 points, Jupiter to 46 points and Saturn to 37. Sun delights Moon, creating an honorable personality. Mercury adds a small contribution that boosts his capacity to attract great opportunities.
Yogas
The Moon has +0.6 and -20.1 Yoga Judgment points. Ishta is good at 33.4. Generally, this Moon is really mixed for Lucas: it has great strength and maturity, yet its dignity isn’t helpful nor is its Yoga Judgment scoring. It’s also ruling over an inauspicious house.
Despite the mediocre first glance of Lucas’ Moon, it is in a rewarding yoga with Jupiter called Gaja Kesari. More details regarding this yoga will be discussed in the House 10 section.
Moon rules the 3rd and is located in the 10th house. He worked hard to positively impact society. His career was focused on things like writing, editing and directing in the entertainment business. Lucas’ movies revolved around his interests, like adventure, racing and finding inner peace.
Before he was financially free to make whatever kinds of movies he wanted, he felt frustrated that he couldn’t express himself in his career. Prior to his vehicle accident at age 18, he was more interested in racing cars than career development.
Next in this astrological series on George Lucas’ life, we’ll explore his House 4 in Leo. You’ll learn how having the house of real estate and happiness became expanded tremendously by having Jupiter placed there! Stay tuned!
Thanks for sharing these. Some of the concepts are over my head so to speak but still really fascinating and impressive. Looking forward to the next installment.
