George Lucas: House 2 in Vedic Astrology
Continue exploring the life of George Lucas through Vedic Astrology, using the Tropical Ayanamsa. Welcome to House 2 for this Taurus Ascendant!
Today we’re getting into the next layer of George Lucas’ life by looking at his House 2, which is in Gemini. Let’s see how the sign of Gemini and the natal position of Saturn in his House 2 affect his ability to acquire resources and communicate.
(Note: For the other astrological charts related to George Lucas, such as his Lajjitaadi Avashtas, etc., please refer to the first post in this series.)
House 2: Gemini
House 2 represents wealth, resources and responsibilities. It can also indicate one’s speech, the food one eats, clothing and early childhood experiences. This house is considered a Maraka house and functionally neutral. It is an Artha house of wealth and responsibility.
Gemini overlaps House 2 for Lucas. The nature of Gemini is dual, masculine, the air element and vata. Gemini represents mental activity, skills, trial and error, exploration, social interactions, games, writing and other creative expressions.
Gemini as House 2 combines wealth and responsibilities with quick intellect. Mercury as the ruler of Gemini is the manager, and with this rulership, Taurus Ascendant has the capacity to manage their own responsibilities and resources with vata quickness and to see the game of wealth like a chess match.
Rasi Aspects and Prosperity & Annihilation
There are no Rasi aspects to Gemini. The annihilation of House 2 is greater than prosperity with 6 points of annihilation to 3 points of prosperity.
Planets Occupying House 2
Saturn occupies House 2 in good dignity. The qualities of Saturn are focus, endurance and patience. Saturn in the 2nd creates wealth from hard work. Putting Saturn into a detail-oriented sign like Gemini makes Lucas even more careful and calculating with finances.
Saturn also influenced his speech. As the director of the first Star Wars, he was very sparing with his words and gave very little direction. The actors often didn’t know what he wanted of them in scenes.
Saturn also affects his manner of dress. Despite the fact that he’s one of the world’s richest celebrities, he still regularly wears jeans and a flannel shirt.
Mercury’s Function for a Taurus Ascendant
Gemini is ruled by Mercury. Mercury as the 2nd lord is neutral but because it also rules his Trinal 5th house, Mercury becomes auspicious for Taurus Ascendant. It’s a planet of intelligence and creativity for him, as well as a ruler of finances. This lordship gives great monetary management and practicality to Taurus, creating huge potential for material wealth.
Mercury indicates communication, business, management and organization, humor and friends. Mercury is also able to consider all viewpoints and will support the agendas of influencing planets. It’s considered a benefic planet, rajasic, in the Vaishya caste and looks side-to-side to find the best deal.
Dignity, Avashtas and Shad Bala of Mercury
For Lucas, Mercury is in Neutral dignity, Vriddha Avashta and Svapna. In general this is a very mediocre Mercury. It doesn’t seem to bode well for this Taurus Ascendant who so greatly depends on the manifestation of Mercurial things. In its Shad Bala scoring, it comes up fourth in the planetary lineup.
What’s carrying this Mercury into success for Lucas is that it’s the one planet that has sufficient Dig Bala at 168%. His other planets sorely lack in this particular Bala, but he is able to manage his life in such a way that he can live out his inspirations, be productive with his time and express who he truly is.
Mercury’s Lajjitaadi Avashtas
Mercury is conjunct Venus and Sun. The Moon taxes it at 41 points. Jupiter has significant aspect at 33 points.
The Sun agitates Mercury down to -84.8 and the Moon withdraws a chunk of Mercury’s strength but Mercury still comes out ahead with +153. Venus fully delights it up to 897 points. In the end, Mercury is still standing with +56.8 points. (This score removes the positive scoring from the Sun, as I believe there isn’t a positive Avashta happening here.)
Sun agitating Mercury makes communicating boundaries really painful until one learns how to do it. Moon starving Mercury makes friendships more difficult because of desiring validation, but Venus mitigates this and he has benefitted from having friends in the film industry. This is especially apparent in his friendship with Steven Spielberg.
Yogas
Mercury for Lucas has positive Yoga Judgment scoring with +4.5 points and -0.5 This is extremely beneficial for his finances and creativity. Mercury also has good Ishta at 31.6.
Mercury resides in Lucas’ first house. Because it’s in Neutral dignity, old and sleepy, there are some setbacks to Mercury’s bhava yogas, however with its great Yoga Judgment score and good Ishta, we’ll see a lot of positives.
On the scarce side, his diet has hurt his body and he developed Type 2 Diabetes in his 20s. Positively, he’s been very financially-minded and manages resources well. As mentioned in an article by ScreenRant, “Lucas understood that…by keeping expenses low, he reduced the financial pressure on his films, allowing them to succeed without requiring astronomical box office returns.”
Also, while contractual agreements with 20th Century Fox were still in the works with the first Star Wars film, he made it so that his company, Lucasfilm, would have ownership of licensing and merchandising rights and agreements for sequels. Because of this foresight, Lucasfilm earned 100s of millions of dollars in revenue over the decades on the franchise.
Hora
In his Hora, the 2nd house contains Saturn representing expenses. He pays his expenses through hard work. Both Jupiter and Moon as karakas of the Hora are in the 4th. Lucas has expressed that it’s not making money that gives him satisfaction, but the happiness of creating.
Coming up next… House 3 for George Lucas! In House 3, the combination of a debilitated Mars and Rahu created some interesting experiences in the film industry for Lucas.
